Span Bridge – CR# 17 OVER THE ST. JOSEPH RIVER

proposed bridge will have 7 travel lanes and an 8’ wide sidewalk on each side.
The overall dimensions will be about 106’ wide by 462’ long. The bridge
structure type will be an earth-filled precast concrete arch with an asphalt
road surface. It will be similar in appearance to the
Construction phasing will allow two lanes of traffic to be maintained except for short periods of time when major structural elements are being placed.
The current schedule is to advertise for construction bids in December 2007 with construction beginning in the Spring of 2008.

Construction plans are nearing completion. Right-of-way acquisition is progressing and relocation of existing utilities is being coordinated with the utility companies in the project area. Construction of the project is planned to begin this October on the widened portion of the bridge so traffic will not be significantly affected until 2009.
